A First Hand Account Of The Sony BDP-S560 Blu-Ray Player

Posted by: Chris Channing   in Hints and Tips

by Chris Channing

So many media types exist today that it can be daunting to find a media player that does it all. Sony sought to change that by releasing the BDP-S560 Blu-ray disc player to the public. Able to play just about any popular media, it has quickly become one of the most popular media players on the current market.

It’s no surprise that Sony would release a phenomenal Blu-ray disc player. After all, they did create the Blu-ray disc to replace the current DVD standard! Blu-ray discs are able to store more information per disc and have greatly increased the quality of sound and picture. In order to play a Blu-ray disc, consumers need a proper media player. the BDP-S560 has certainly become a great choice to fill this basic need.

The Sony BDP-S560 is a great pick for your first time looking at a Blu-ray disc player. This model features a backwards compatibility feature that will even allow you to play all of the DVD formats in your collection- so you won’t have to throw them away and buy them again. Played through the superior video format, they will also look better when played on the Blu-ray disc player.

Remember in the olden days of DVD players, how when you tried to navigate throughout the menu you often became frustrated? Sony replaced this frustration with glee, as they have released a similar interface to their PS3 interface for use on the BDP-S560. The “Xross” display allows one to easily navigate options and menus like it is second nature.

Sound is an integral part of the movie experience. And while so far the emphasis has been put on the video quality, don’t assume that Sony skipped out on the sound department. Sony has made an effort to support the best sound quality possible, and they have done it through supporting Dolby TrueHD standards. Sound can now sound exactly like it does in the theater- only better if you have the right speaker setup.

Ports are important for getting a device to hook up with another and share information. Sony included just about every port there is to ensure that if there is a need for the device to hook up to anything, the option to do it will be there. A rather odd port for a media player, the Ethernet port, has even been included to network your Sony BDP-S560 to other devices supporting the standard. It’s innovation like this that really puts the frosting on the cake for consumers.

Final Thoughts

You really can’t go wrong in purchasing the Sony BDP-S560 disc player. It does a lot of work to ensure consumers can do anything they like, whether ordinary or not so common. Look for them in stores to compare and shop.

You can have a fresh drinking supply of water in minutes with a portable UV water purifier. This is a change from the normal, as other methods can take much longer and leave a poor taste. Using your new UV water purifier may seem simple enough, but some tips exist to allow you to use it more efficiently.

Water purification via ultraviolet light exposure doesn’t actually kill the organisms you don’t want to drink. Instead, the light causes enough damage to make sure they aren’t able to reproduce. Effectively, this limits the bacteria to a very short lifespan and without the ability to create offspring. It’s just as effective, if not more, than outright killing the organisms directly instead.

Whether a good thing or bad, ultraviolet purification won’t affect the taste of the water you are purifying. Unfortunately a murky water may just still taste like murky water- it will just be healthy to drink. Some purification methods are able to leave a good taste, but at the cost of expense or convenience that you find with UV purification.

If the only water source you have access to appears “muddy,” you might be out of luck. The murky water will hinder the effects that the ultraviolet purification system would otherwise have. The sediments in the water will block the light from reaching through the other side of the sample. Unfortunately, the only way to find a solution is to use another method of water filtration.

Ideally, you should only use your ultraviolet water purification device on water. Other types of liquids could possibly benefit from the treatment, but as the liquid may not be pure the efficiency of the purification could be less than normal. The purification rate with water is above 99%, and using a liquid other than water can easily detract that percentage down by half or more, depending on the composition of the liquid.

As a last note of advice, it is best to agitate the water before you decide to clean it. This can be done easily by simply stirring the water before applying the purification process. This will “excite” the particles in the water so that the ultraviolet purification process can uniformly treat the entire segment of water. Otherwise materials could collect on the bottom, and prove a harder task to clean due to blockage.

Final Thoughts

Events occur that make even the most sheltered of individuals require the need of a portable ultraviolet light sterilization device. Keep one in your car, and consider buying another one for your home so that you can always have access to clean water in the event of an emergency.

The Art of Black and White Photography

Posted by: Tobias Sterling   in Entertainment

Sepia or black and white is the original film for photography just as it was for movies. It was in the mid-twentieth century that color photography first became available to the general public. As our world is seen full of vibrant color, why would anyone wish to remove that brilliance from photographs?

This question is unique in that it brings about the answer of identifying when to take a black and white photograph or when to remove color from a photograph using an editing program such as Photoshop.

To simplify is the answer to the above question. This process allows for removal of distracting elements from a photograph, much like blurring the background or enhancing the frame of a photo.

So now we know the why, which has led us to the when, of black-and-white photography, lets look at the three main situations where we might de-saturate (i.e. remove color from) a photo.

# Color Portraits – Taking a photo of someone using color photography reveals a close up to their facial flaws. Things such as skin discolorations and blemishes become a distraction to the viewer and leave them unable to see the true emotions, life and personality of the person in the photo.

# In abstract fine art photography

Color is very noticeable in a photo, and it generally trumps things like patterns or shapes. So another use for black-and-white is when a photographer wants to take a photo that is about a pattern or shapes. This type of photograph comes up most often in what we might call abstract fine art photography, where there really isnt a clear or recognizable subject for the photo.

In addition, photographers of Abstract Fine Art will often increase the contrast of a photo after removing the color. This is commonly done with the assistance of an editing program.

# Monochromatic Photography – In this situation, black and white usually works best.

This final category is something of a catchall. While the main use of black-and-white is to remove something distracting from a photo, its also a good idea to try converting a photo to black-and-white when the photo really has few bright colors anyway. Another way of looking at this is to say that just as color is distracting, a washed-out lack of color is also somewhat distracting.

Naturally sourced fish oil is the most potent of the Omega 3 fatty acids. The most effective nutrients come from natural sources. When you buy Omega3, make sure it is naturally sourced.

With so much of the Earth’s water ways are contaminated with heavy metal toxins like mercury and PCBs. The fish caught from those waters produce bad fish oil and should not be eaten–heavy metal contaminants concentrate in the flesh of fish over time. Good fish oil is sourced from cleaner waters.

The best fish oil is purified and free from contaminants, is produced with a low oxidation (decomposition) level for freshness. Being naturally sourced means it has natural triglycerides or ethyl ester form which is not produced artificially.

Reducing inflammation is a huge reason many choose to buy Omega 3. “The secret killer” article in Time Magazine (May 2004). Offers solutions like: aspirin, Statins, Beta blockers and ACE inhibitors or you could take some Omega 3 fish oil. It’s much stronger than aspirin, but easy on the stomach.

Now you can buy Omega 3/DHA in higher concentrations of anti-inflammatory then you can get by eating fish. Newer supplements on the market have some of the most highly effective fish oil concentrates, higher than normal fish oil that many people buy.

Omega 3 Fatty acids and in particular DHA have been linked to improved brain function.

Many thousands of BT Ireland home and small business customers whose accounts are to be transferred to Vodafone will be tied to Vodaphone under a major agreement unveiled yesterday between the two firms, and will not be able to terminate their existing contracts once the move takes place.

British Telecom has left the home retail telephone and broadband market. Its 84,000 home consumers will soon be part of Vodafone’s fixed-line customer base. Its additional 3,000 BT small business customers will also be transferred to Vodafone’s existing fixed-line service in coming months.

Vodafone’s total fixed-line customer base increases to more than 170,000 customers with this deal, making it the second-biggest player in the Irish telecommunications market after Eircom. Vodafone will also increase to having 15 percent of the country’s fixed-line broadband internet consumers.

The proposed deal which is still subject to approval from the Competition Authority, also includes a multi-million euro commitment from BT to upgrade a further 58 telephone exchanges around the country. In doing so it can ensure that more of the Irish population can access its high-speed internet services.

BT has already unbundled 22 exchanges. BT will sell the wholesale broadband capacity to Vodafone, which will in turn market it to fixed-line customers.

This component of the deal will further impact revenue at Eircom, further challenging the already embattled company. Of BT’s 84,000 home users, about 80pc of them use broadband services that BT sources from Eircom on a wholesale basis. Once the new exchanges are upgraded by BT, the amount of wholesale fixed-line internet services that Vodafone will have to source from Eircom will decline.
