Setting Kitchen Tables

Posted by: David Artstone   in Entertainment

Slate and Artstone – If you are going to make room in the hustle and bustle kitchen for a dining table, then you should take some time and care in choosing how to present that piece to the world. A table is almost like a platform, elevating whatever is on it to visual height, and putting it out there for the world to see. You should choose wisely when deciding which decorative pieces to give this particular honor to.

The first thing to think about with kitchen tables is the utility of the piece. In most kitchens, space is at a premium, and in a pinch the table is going to be used to make up for insufficient counter space. For this reason it is important that you not clutter up the surface of the table with a lot of useless decorative items. Instead you should choose to display only one or two tasteful objects, which will evoke the meaning you are trying to represent.

One of the classic ways to spruce up a kitchen is with a display of flowers, or some sort of small and modest plant. The kitchen is a place of activity and life, where sustenance is prepared and creativity is expressed. Having a decorative vase with a tasteful display of flowers is a great way to enhance these inherent effects.

Some people choose to use a tablecloth on these pieces. This can make the difference between an informal setting, which is used as much for sitting around and chatting as it is for eating; and a formal piece which is set up to be the dining room, or at least a dining room in the house.

A kitchen table is a prominent piece that stands out in the kitchen, taking up valuable space, and dominating the decorative nature of the room. You should be certain to take extra time and care when selecting which decorative pieces to display on it.

Interior Design Ideas

Posted by: Michael James   in Hints and Tips

by Michael James

Redecorating your house really isn’t that easy and it only gets even less so when you become stuck for ideas. The only way to really get over this shortage of interior design ideas, is to sit down, put your feet up and have some tea.

I’m not kidding, there’s really no substitute for getting a fresh perspective on things, like taking a break from everything for example. In the first place, you become more relaxed, and in the second place a steaming cup of tea or coffee is always welcome.

Now that you’re resting comfortably and are suitably relaxed, close your eyes and get a mental picture of the room that you are going to redecorate. Even if you are doing more than one room, it’s always a good idea to start with one room first, working your way logically through to the next one and then the next one.

Before you commence your journey through the maze of interior design ideas, get yourself a notebook and pencil so that you can write down any inspirational ideas you have before they are forgotten

So, just lie back and picture the room in your mind. Try and see it as you want it to look. And if that’s too hard, then first try to replace separate bits and pieces. This is always a good way to work. If you’ve still got a mental drought on interior design ideas, then leaf through some interior design catalogues beforehand so that you have at least a working idea of what you can do to redecorate the room.

The interior design catalogues need not be anything more impressive than your free local department store catalogue, turned to the home furnishing pages. Then again, nowadays you also get specialist shops which deal solely with the redecorating of your home. If you have the time, a quick trip down to one of these might also help to end the dearth on interior design ideas, and can probably get you started.

These stores will have decorated sets of many designs, offering you a good impression of what your room can look like if you bought those materials. However, if you’re going to go to one of those shops, expect to spend a bit of cash, because no matter how hard you try to keep a tight hand on your wallet, you’ll always find something you want to buy.

This is not always a bad thing, but unless you watch out you could end up buying things you don’t really need and without a proper idea of what you want the room to look like, it can prove to be disastrous. Don’t worry though, if you keep your mental image in mind, you can go back home and get a start on redecorating your rooms the way you want to.

Furthermore, now that you’ve managed to get at least some interior design ideas of what you want your rooms to look like, your whole redecorating project ought to be that much easier and that much more enjoyable.
