Are you between the ages of 17 and 25 and your wisdom teeth are growing in? Then it might be time for wisdom teeth removal. Some people do not get their wisdom teeth, so if you do not have them, it’s nothing to worry about. The third molars, as wisdom teeth are known, can cause some problems if they are not removed.
There can be many problems that can come with wisdom teeth. One of those problems is the impaction of the wisdom tooth. This is when the tooth has not emerged from the gum. Most people actually fall into this category, because there is not enough room for the teeth to emerge. But with them being impacted, they need to be removed.
Another problem with wisdom teeth impaction is whether it is a bone or soft tissue impaction. Bone impaction is when the tooth is still in the jaw bone, which means when they remove the wisdom tooth, they have to shatter it and remove the pieces. Soft tissue impaction is when the wisdom tooth has gone through the bone, but not the gums.
Besides impaction, there are other problems that wisdom teeth cause. There is usually not room in your mouth for them, so if they grow in they can cause shifting in your teeth. If you have had braces to fix your teeth, then this is a problem because it will completely undo what the braces did.
There are many reasons for wisdom teeth removal, but if prompted by your dentist then they should be removed. There is a condition called pericoronitis, which is an infection around the wisdom tooth when it is starting to emerge from the gum. Since the wisdom teeth are so far back they are hard to brush and bacteria will grow when they are not being brushed properly.
Since the wisdom teeth are so hard to reach, there is a risk or tooth decay. Like any other tooth, plaque builds up on them and when they are not brushed that can cause tooth decay. With wisdom teeth, it is really hard to put a filling in, they when tooth decay happens they just need to be removed.
There are some more serious problems that can arise with wisdom teeth, but they are more rare. Some of these problems include cysts and tumors that could grow and be very painful as well as dangerous.
A common reason for having wisdom teeth removed is pain and discomfort. When wisdom teeth grow in and emerge from the gum, they can cause your other teeth to shift, which can be very painful. If your dentist suggests that you have your wisdom teeth removed, then you should not wait. The dentist knows whats best for your oral health and he or she can refer you to a great oral surgeon who will remove your wisdom teeth.
