Impossible is nothing or so the slogan goes from a well known footwear manufacturer and hell, they might just be right. When you look at some their shoes, Adidas certainly provide products which have seemingly come from the mind of a warped teenager on acid and would definitely subscribe to the “impossible” part of the slogan.

Adidas has come a long way since its early birth in the hands of two German brothers called Rudolf and Adolf Dessler. You may already have known that, but did you know that the two were once Nazi sympathisers and indeed members of the party, until they fell out with each other in 1947 and that meant two companies forming. One, lead by Adolf, or Adi as he liked to be called became Adidas, formed from his first and last name. In a similar, but less successful way, Rudolf did the same and formed a company called Ruda, which would later be rebranded Puma.

Today, both brands and both logos are known the world over and in particular Adidas enjoy the kind of brand loyalty only found at companies like Microsoft or Nike. On the subject of the logo design, Adidas say their three bar design represents a mountain, pointing out towards the challenges that are seen ahead and goals that can be achieved. It doesnt really tally with the slogan though does it. company logos I guess.

This blurb can only be considered marketing gobbledy-gook however, as the three strips have been there for decades and only in recent years has the logo changed to look more like a mountain. Indeed, on their shoes, the three stripes have been nothing more than that stripes. No Mountains, no clever insinuation and no ironic polarisation of their slogan.

Whatever, the brand remains one of the most recognisable on planet earth and with millions of dollars spent on sponsoring some of the biggest athletes on the globe, they dont have to fear the future, even if it was just 17 years ago the company was sold twice in 2 years.
