This Is The Best Brand Of Camera

Posted by: Chris Campbell   in Entertainment

If you never bought a digital camera before, you may be a bit overwhelmed by all the different brands. Don’t feel bad, as most experienced digital camera owners have the same problem. Professional and amateur alike.

Now, we’re not talking film cameras here, as I’m sure by now, even the professionals have made the leap to the digital world. For a lot of years, the pros wanted nothing to do with digital, and you may still know some old hold outs, but their days are numbered.

While it’s true, that there are certain photographers in the crowd, that swear by a particular brand of camera, I’m not one of them. While I do have more Canons than any other, I also have a Kodak, Olympus, and Fuji floating around the house somewhere. Just getting my personal biases out in the open.

With all of that in mind though, there do seem to be some camera brands that are more successful than others. Canon, always seems to grab more of the top spots from most top ten lists than any other. There’s a couple lists I perused just before writing this article, and Canon had between 7-9 of the top cameras on the lists.

The other strange thing I’ve noticed about some of the broader lists, is the inclusion of video cameras. Specifically the Flip Video brand of cameras. I find that a little strange, since they really only do video semi-decently, and most other still cameras do video at least as well. Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Sony, and even Kodak seem to make a few top spots, but not like Canon does.

Sure, sure, sure, Canon seems to sell more cameras than anyone else. But, are they really that much better? And so what if they are, maybe I don’t want to follow the crowd. I like following my own drummer afterall ;) But hey, while were analyzing things, lets take a look at what a few other analysts have to say. There may be some consensus amongst that group.

One popular camera review site under their top 103 cameras showed 46 Canon cameras, 21 Sony cameras, 20 Nikon cameras, 5 Pentax cameras, 3 Fuji cameras, 2 Samsung cameras, 2 Panasonic cameras, 2 Kodak cameras, 1 Konica camera, and 1 Casio camera. Another top camera review site under their 5 star category, show 39 Canon cameras, 18 Sony cameras, 17 Nikon cameras, 6 Fuji cameras, 5 Olympus cameras, 5 Panasonic cameras, 3 Pentax cameras, and 1 Konica camera. If you total all that up, the top 3 end up being Canon with 85, Sony a distant second with 39, and Nikon a very close third with 37. Everyone else had less than 10 top rated cameras.

Interesting huh? Canon seems to be dominating sales, and wowing the critics. That’s a pretty strong one-two punch. The only reasonable conclusion here, is that Canon is the best overall brand out there. Of course I would never recommend anyone buy a camera based solely on brand. What I do suggest, is to do your homework by researching some good cameras. Once you’ve got your short list, and with everything else being equal, maybe then you should pick the Canon.

Taking A Look At Mental Telepathy

Posted by: Janette Stretens   in Entertainment

by Rachel Jordan

The term ‘mental telepathy’ is misleadingly broad. It essentially means the direct communication of thoughts between people without using the basic five senses. There is a huge difference, however, between having a creepy feeling that someone is watching you and being able to pick the plans for a nuclear reactor out of an unsuspecting scientist’s mind. Mental telepathy covers a huge range of abilities from very basic to fairly complex. This article will attempt to explain the different levels of mental telepathy.

NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION

If you are a parent who has tried to tell your kid or spouse something non-verbally by using your body language, eyes and facial expressions, then you would know what Kinesics or non-verbal communication is. In this form of non verbal communication almost everything can be said without speaking by merely using the eyes and expressions and body language. For this kind of communication you need to know the other person well in order to communicate effectively. Its most effective between parents, children, lovers and intimate friends.

Most people do not regard this form of communication as mental telepathy since here communication is through senses and not just with sounds. Theoretically, this argument holds good. However, we cannot disregard the role of mental telepathy here. The very observation that this kind of non verbal communication is most effective in people who are intimate with each other or know each other well tells us that the minds of these people are more in synch with each other. However, skeptics may argue that this communication is merely effective because people who know each other well understand each other’s body language well or have previously developed a mode of non verbal communication.

EMPATHY

Through empathy it is possible to directly experience the emotions of others or connect on an emotional level. Putting yourself in another’s shoes’ and understanding how they feel is not something everybody is able to do. Training and practice can increase empathy. Imitating the emotions of others, even to the point of spontaneously laughing or crying is something actors and sociopaths can do everyday.

Sympathetic pain or truly feeling the pain of the other person is often experienced by many. This can be particularly prevalent in mothers who even develop a fever when their children are sick. There are times when close friends or relatives actually feel the pain whether it’s emotional or physical or even mental of the other person. Then there is something known as long distance empathy which all of us have known and experienced at one time or the other. This happens when some one real close to us has problem or gets hurt or even is in danger and is somewhere else and we feel their pain and emotion.

Psychologists write off such empathetic phenomena as a simple trick of an overactive imagination. At the very least, they do have a point that other senses are being used. Would we be able to feel the sympathetic pain of a broken arm, for example, if we could not actually see the injury? This does not explain, however, the phenomena of long-distance empathy.

CONCRETE CONCEPTS

Thought transference of symbols, numbers, or names of objects between two minds is beyond the regular five senses in communication. A designated sender and receiver, intense concentration, training, and practice are often involved in this type of mental telepathy, such as a mind reader or physic with a television audience, who is able to guess the names of loved ones or what card a person is holding in their hand.

Here the principle is that simpler concepts are easily communicated. For instance an animal is more difficult to communicate than a shape or color.

Experiments in telepathy are often conducted on this level. The Zener cards used in tests of mental telepathy are simple, concrete black-and-white symbols (a circle, square, star, plus sign, and three wavy lines). On one hand, skeptics and critics of the Zener cards have pointed out that with only five cards to choose from, even a random guess has a 20% chance of being right. On the other hand, one could argue that a shared, known, limited set of concrete symbols increases the ability of the sender and receiver to coordinate their thoughts. Furthermore, although anyone can get a 20% success rate with enough guesses, a success rate of 50% or higher (which have happened) can not be explained away by simple statistics.

ABSTRACT COMMUNICATION:

Mental telepathy at this level involves abstract concepts like ideas or actions, which are more complex to communicate than colors and shapes. Telepaths rarely achieve this level, and lower success rates are indicated in experiments.

Interestingly there are certain animals which can communicate effectively and we have still not discovered their modus operandi. Telepathy may be one of the methods. In this kind of communication between animals very basic abstract concepts will be involved. Since animals do not have prefrontal lobes which enhance complex communication, this communication will be restricted to basic impulses like thirst hunger and even danger.

There is a theory that humans were once capable of telepathy, but lost it as the species evolved and developed language. If this is true, then with the right stimulation humans should be able to ‘relearn’ this dormant ability.

Other scientists believe however that telepathy and other esp and psychic powers are in fact the ‘future’ for mankind. And if enough people can develop these powers, theoretically all humans in the future could become telepathic.

Have you ever seriously thought about making your own suncatchers or windchimes. How attractive these often are, and yet, can be constructed so easily. CD’s can be used for this purpose, so why not join me and have a go?

What else will I need to gather together to do this? Well, mainly some glue, a craft knife or scissors, bells, the CD’s and some coloured cord, twine, string or even ribbon. This will depend entirely on the colour of your chosen CD’s.

So let us try. Firstly, assuming that you have some nice and really bright colourful CD’s, let’s try with four to start with. Take the glue and stick two together with the labels on the inside. Now repeat this with the other two. I only say use coloured discs so that the end product will be more effective.

Now I will describe how to do this, but you can adapt this for the size needed, so as an example, you could use only two discs or you could use six. Now cut about 36 inches, say of string, and with one end of this, go through one of the CD’s and out the other side. Make sure you have the same amount of string each side, then you can do a tight knot at the outside edge of the CD.

Continue then by picking up your other CD and threading the strings through the centre, one each side of the other CD, so that this lies on top of the other CD. Knot tightly at the outer edge. So, at this stage, you have your two CDs joined. Knot again!

We now need our bells. If you can, try and obtain some coloured ones, to go with your gaudy CD’s. If this is not possible, try painting your own, using an acrylic paint or nail varnish, just to keep it all colourful. The first bell needs to be attached to the two ribbons together, so that it is just on top of the two CD’s, with the next one coming about two inches above, before you fix it.

The bells themselves can be tied on, or knotted, and you don’t necessarily have to do them with the thread double. It would also be possible to hang these on both ribbons and space them in different places. Basically, how many bells you want to use and where, is entirely up to you. If you use more bells, you may need more ribbon for when you tie it at the top.

What would be nice now, is to add a few more strings to the bottom CD’s. I think that beads in coloured glass would be absolutely ideal for this, and they certainly would rattle, and there is nothing to stop you still intermingling your bells with them.

This you could use with silver CD’s just the same, or use crystals instead of bells. However, plain CDs could also be jazzed up with some psychedelic paints. What fun you could have! So try experimenting!

This would hang well from a tree!
